Michael Jenkins can usually be found anchoring SportsNite or SportsDay, but he occasionally jumps head first into feature stories, whether it’s covering the Scripps National Spelling Bee or skydiving with the Army Golden Knights.

Michael joined the network in September 2004 from KVUE-TV in Austin, Texas, and has since won two Capital Region Emmy Awards. He was named the 2008 winner for Best Sports Reporter and also won in 2005 for Best Sports Anchor.  He’s also a four-time recipient of the RTNDA/Edward R. Murrow Award for both sports and news reporting.

Prior to working in Austin, Michael was an anchor/reporter for KTVB-TV in Boise, Idaho, and KTEN-TV in Denison, Texas.  He holds both a bachelor's and master's degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin and served as a journalism professor at Austin Community College for four years.

Michael and his long-time girlfriend live in Washington, D.C., with their three pet turtles--Needles, Greeners and Meeps.  Michael is especially passionate about college sports, which means he lives and dies by his Texas Longhorns.  He’s also a cancer survivor, so he works closely with The Children’s Inn at NIH and Relay for Life.
