-you watch the same Shell's Wonderful World of Golf for the third time and you don't care. You don't know what year it's from but you suspect it's fairly old because Fred Couples has brown hair.

-you get Golf Plus in your Sports Illustrated subscription.

-you practice putting on a carpet in your family room. You hope the next course you play has 18 carpets instead of greens.

-you watch European Tour matches on Golf Channel for no apparent reason.

-you watch a Nationwide Tour event when a player you've never heard of makes the top 24 money list earning his PGA Tour card. The player gets emotional during an interview. You get a little verklempt yourself.

-in September, when everyone else in the newsroom is watching NFL games, you click over to whatever golf tournament is on. You click back when someone walks by so they don't find out you're not watching football.

-you're still not over Tom Watson not winning the British Open three months ago.

-you know the sites for all four of next year's majors (Augusta, Pebble Beach, St. Andrew's and Whistling Straits).

-you keep re-living the final four holes of your best round of the year wondering why you couldn't make just one more putt to break 80 for the first time in your life. Dag nabbit.

-you leave your clubs in your trunk until the first snow.
