Seabass Selects: Week 10
Friday, November 6, 2009By Sebastian SalazarCSNwashington.comAfter shooting the games, Sebastian Salazar will let you know who impressed him the most every week with his Seabass Selects! What's
up
folks! This was an exciting but also kind of sad night on the high school football scene. For a lot of kids, Friday is the last time they'll ever wear pads... and I'd like to acknowledge that and congratulate them all on great careers. For the second week in a row, our game of the week totally lived up to the hype, and I got to see my first Gatorade shower of the year (watch it in the Whitman - Churchill highlights). Congrats to everybody heading to the playoffs.. I can't wait for the postseason!!!
Offensive Player of the Night:Crusoe Gongbay - Running Back - Rockville
By the time we got to Rockville, Gongbay had already done all of his damage... but that doesn't mean we can ignore what this young man did. Gongbay carried the ball 27 times for 293 yards and three touchdowns. His scoring runs came from 31, 6, and 1 yards out and provided the difference in Rockville's 28-7 win over Blake.
Defensive Player of the Night:Daquan Mincy - Linebacker - Quince Orchard
He's listed at 5-10 and 185 pounds, but the QO senior plays so much bigger than that. Mincy has the speed to make plays from one sideline to another, but the strength to penetrate pretty much any backfield. When he hits a running back, you can pretty much guarantee there will be very little yards after contact. Daquan also seems to play best on 3rd down, which you gotta love.
Fans of the Night:Churchill
I know the Bulldog fans went home disappointed tonight, but they did a great job pumping up the home team in what turned out to be a classic ball game. The one thing I love about a football game at Churchill is the music. They know how to mix it up with a great selection of classic rock, the latest pop, and even some oldies. The kids sing along, pack out the bleachers and seem to genuinely have a great time. It wasn't just a party though... when the Bulldogs needed their fans to make some noise late in the ball game, the student body was willing and able to deliver.
