There was a brief moment of hope on Thursday, when he started practice with the team in Florida, but after a couple of minutes with his stick, Ovechkin put it down.  "I didn't want to disturb the injury," he told the media after practice.

At this point, it looks like Ovechkin will most likely miss the back to back Florida games.

"It's getting better every day, but [in terms] of percentages or degrees, I don't know," Head Coach Bruce Boudreau said.  "He might be one percent better. It's going to take time.  He wants to play, but if he takes a major hit on it, and he's not 100-percent, he could be behind the eight ball for three weeks or four weeks. We don't want that."

"I miss it -- it is not my thing to sit in the press box and watch the game with you guys," Ovechkin told the media. "It is a boring time [watching practice].

After a pentalty-filled loss to the Devils on Wednesday, the team is regrouping without their star player.

Defenseman Brian Pothier told the Washington Times, "We have the best player on planet Earth on our team, and not only that he is such an exuberant personality and just full of life," Pothier said. "He is the identity of the team, the identity of the league and the identity of hockey in general. I can't stress that enough -- he is larger than life. When you take him out, you can't expect one guy -- or even five guys -- to fill that personality void because he's one of a kind.

"What we can do is collectively play tighter and better as a team. Yeah, we might not jump over the glass when we score a goal or whatever Alex does, but we can each be effective in our own way. We each kind of bring something to the table."
