The bye week did nothing to slow down the drama at Redskins Park. Over the course of three days this week, the owner expressed his disappointment, a franchise legend criticized the owner, and the defensive coordinator came to the owner’s defense.
But there is a football game to be played Sunday, against a pretty talented Falcons team. Here are my keys to a Redskins’ win.
1) Pressure Ryan
Matt Ryan has emerged as the Falcons’ offensive leader in just his second season. He has multiple weapons at his disposal, so pressuring him into mistakes is key. But it's not easy. Ryan has barely been touched this season. The Atlanta o-line has allowed just nine sacks this season.
2) Who's Covering Tony?
Even at age 33, Tony Gonzalez is getting it done at tight end. Over 75 percent of his catches result in first downs. This will be a huge test for rookie Brian Orakpo and the rest of the linebacking corps, who have the daunting task of slowing down the future Hall of Famer. Containing him will go a long way to containing the Falcons’ passing attack.
3) Get Going On Offense
The Falcons aren't stout on defense. Statistically, they're at the bottom of the conference. DE John Abraham is a force going after the quarterback. Keeping him off of Jason Campbell is essential. Devin Thomas and Fred Davis each caught TD passes against the Eagles. The Skins will need more of that from both of them to knock off Atlanta in the Dome.
Don't forget to check out Redskins Kickoff Sunday at 11:30am.
