Bethesda, MD (May 14, 2009) – Comcast SportsNet, the leader in local sports television, received its highest Washington Capitals rating in network history for its key demo, men 18-49, with a 7.6 as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Capitals in Game 7 of the conference semifinals. For the game, approximately 104,000 men in the target demographic tuned in – more than any other television program in primetime on Wednesday. The broadcast peaked with 127,000 households tuning in at 7:30 p.m., giving the network a 9.3 rating for the quarter-hour.

Comcast SportsNet’s Geico SportsNite Pregame Edition from 6-7 p.m., leading into Game 7 also earned the highest rating in its time period for men 18-49.

Comcast SportsNet aired the final four games of the Washington Capitals-Pittsburgh Penguins conference semifinal series, averaging a 5.5 rating for men 18-49, more than 75,000 men in the age group.

The network earned a 5.5 household rating for Game 7 in Washington, D.C., as approximately 129,000 households watched the series-clinching matchup. In Baltimore, Game 7 was the highest-rated sports program of the evening, with a 3.4.

The four games on Comcast SportsNet averaged 110,000 households in D.C., a 4.7 rating, while the games in Baltimore averaged a 2.6 rating. Combined, the games averaged 140,000 households throughout the D.C.-Baltimore region.

During the past two seasons, the back-to-back Southeast Division champions have set countless records with their television ratings on Comcast SportsNet. This year, Comcast SportsNet posted the highest Capitals regular-season average in the history of the network. The 1.1 rating, which is equivalent to more than 25,000 households in Washington, D.C., is a 65% increase over last season, building on the 75% year-over-year increase Comcast SportsNet saw in its Capitals regular season ratings from 2006-07 to 2007-08.
