• June 8, 2009: Comcast SportsNet's Redskins Kickoff Earn Emmy For Best Regularly Scheduled Program

Bethesda, MD (June 8, 2009) – Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, the leader in local sports television, topped the competition throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia, taking home the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Emmy Award for Best Regularly Scheduled Daily or Weekly Program (Sports) with Redskins Kickoff, hosted by Chick Hernandez.

Hernandez and his team of producers including Leslie Reader, Brad Bode and Andy Siegel took home the honors, topping all major networks in D.C. and Baltimore, along with all other local sports programming. This year’s Emmys are awarded for work during the 2008 calendar year.

The 51st Emmy Awards, hosted by The National Capital/Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Arts and Sciences (NATAS), honors excellence in broadcasting throughout the region. Among Comcast SportsNet’s five Emmy Awards – the most for any cable network – was the honor for Best Live Sporting Event. The network’s Bill Bell and Steve Farrell earned the award for live coverage of Washington Capitals.

Comcast SportsNet’s nightly news program, SportsNite, also earned a Capital Region Emmy Award for its feature, “Iron Swimmer,” produced by Brent Harris, Mark Foglesong and Colvin Underwood. The network’s Michael Jenkins earned his second Emmy Award and first for Best Sports Reporter. Steve McIntosh also took home a statue for his Capitals promotion.
