• February 25, 2009: Comcast SportsNet Honered With Cablefax Best Of Web Award For Industry's Top Email Newsletter
Bethesda, MD (February 25, 2009) – Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, the leader in local sports television, announced today the network has been nationally recognized for its Comcast SportsNet MVP Club E-Letter. Comcast SportsNet earned one of the top honors in the industry as it received a CableFax Best of the Web Award for the best email newsletter in cable.
Comcast SportsNet Marketing Director Mark Lapidus and Manager of New Media Greg Schultheis were on hand at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City Tuesday, Feb. 24, to accept the award.
The network launched a new website March 28, 2008, and a week later, Comcast SportsNet distributed its first revamped weekly E-Letter to an increased subscriber base. In just five months, the network’s E-Letter database was up 275% from the number of fans that received the first E-Letter. This substantial growth was a direct result of a significant marketing effort, which included a free MVP Club where fans could sign up for chances to win free tickets and prizes, a free Bracket Challenge during March Madness, promotional spots on the network and website, and exclusive content such as a video blog from Washington Redskins Pro Bowler Chris Cooley, a blog from Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, and contests to win a free year of gas and a free trip to New York for the Redskins season opener.
This record-setting increase for the MVP Club database, along with a boost in website traffic, were among the factors leading to increased ratings for the network’s original programming such as SportsNite and Washington Post Live.
“It is quite an honor to receive this type of recognition from one of the most reputable publications in the cable industry,” Lapidus said. “This award is a testament to the hard work of our entire staff and the support we have received from local sports fans. Fans in this region recognize Comcast SportsNet as their destination for the most comprehensive local sports coverage – on television and on the web.”
