Bethesda, MD (April 30, 2009) – Comcast SportsNet, the leader in local sports television in the Washington, D.C.-Baltimore region, today announces a complete relaunch for its popular interactive sports roundtable show, Washington Post Live, which airs Monday-Friday at 5 and 11:30 p.m. Former Washington Post sports reporter and regular Washington Post Live contributor Ivan Carter joins the network as the show’s new host.
While the show, which just celebrated its second birthday in March, will continue to center around the stories, trends and topics on the minds of sports fans throughout the region, it will pull away from the standard X and O’s and focus on what is happening in our Nation’s Capital – including what celebrities are in town, what is going on in the White House, and a continuous stream of star guests into the network’s Bethesda studios.
“Comcast SportsNet has provided me with a tremendous opportunity to join the top regional sports network in our area and its successful Washington Post Live program,” Carter said. “I look forward to providing the Washington, D.C., audience with a show that really hits the core of what is going on in D.C. from an entertainment perspective – not just sports. Washington Post Live will give fans the opportunity to experience the true excitement and enthusiasm that now surrounds this area, along with the growth of activity created by the new administration.”
Russ Thaler, a Capital Region Emmy Award winner who has been with the network since its launch on April 4, 2001, will serve as anchor on Comcast SportsNet’s SportsNite Desk and Chief Digital Correspondent. Thaler, who previously hosted Washington Post Live, will be the primary host for the network’s 6:30 p.m. edition of SportsNite.
Thaler will also be the network’s chief correspondent for its digital media platform. He will provide www.comcastsporstnet.tv with hourly sports updates throughout the day, breaking news, original columns, one-on-one interviews and features – all exclusive to Comcast SportsNet’s website.
“It is truly an exciting time at Comcast SportsNet with the launch of this innovative new media strategy and I relish the opportunity to learn from and grow along with it.” Thaler said. “Bridging the gap between television and the web is a great undertaking and I look forward to taking a lead role in informing our viewers through all of our media platforms.”
“These recent changes represent significant growth for our network,” said
Rebecca Schulte, senior vice president and general manager of Comcast SportsNet.
“Comcast SportsNet is taking Washington Post Live to a new level by integrating
its already-successful sports content with the revitalized energy we have seen
here in Washington, D.C. The network’s growth is also represented through our
digital media platform. With Russ taking the lead on original content, we
continue to offer fans a variety of outlets to receive their most comprehensive
local sports coverage.”
