Veteran broadcaster Dave Johnson has been with the club since the start. Dave Johnson is in his 14th season as the play-by-play host for D.C. United. Also in 2006 Johnson called the World Cup in Germany for XM Radio including the final in Berlin.
Johnson, who can also be seen frequently behind the Comcast SportsNet's SportsNite desk, wears multiple hats in the sports media field. Along with being known as one of the premier soccer announcers in the United States, Johnson serves as sports director for Washington’s 103.5 WTOP, anchoring their morning sports segments. Dave is an Edward R. Murrow award winner for best writing.
On radio, Johnson has been behind the microphone for the 2000 MLS Cup, 2000 Gold Cup tournament, the 2000 Olympic qualifying tournament, and several U.S. Men's National team friendlies and World Cup qualifiers. In addition to his work with professional soccer, Johnson is also the radio play-by-play voice of the Washington Wizards.
He has won three A.I.R. awards as best radio sportscaster in Washington, D.C., and is an Emmy recipient.
A graduate of Towson University, Dave and his wife Diane live in Annapolis, MD with their son, Pierce.
